It was called a ‘Rest Day’ for the men’s peloton when it fact it’s the final part of the prelude, the eve of the Tour Down Under – and the day after the People’s Choice Classic, a criterium that effectively signals the start of international racing for the season.
But Monday 18 January was race day for the women.
In scorching conditions, 79 riders took on a 100km course that started and finished in Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley; 71 would finish.
Orica-AIS nabbed its second victory with Lizzie Williams beating the winner of stage one, her team-mate Katrin Garfoot.
