Ask RIDE…De Ronde van Vlaanderen

This weekend SBS will be hosting and broadcasting (live) the biggest cycling race in Belgium, De Ronde van Vlaanderen. Coverage of the race will commence on 3 April at 10:35pm on SBS One with Matthew Keenan and David McKenzie.

Riders will tackle eighteen hellingen over more than six and a half hours of racing before reaching the finish in Ninove. The course is tough enough that regardless of weather conditions only a select group of strongmen will make it to the finish. Last year’s edition was relatively kind – weather wise – and only 95 of the 198 starters would make it to the end.

There is a select group of riders who are really capable of taking victory on Sunday’s 257.7km route, barring a huge breakaway going clear and staying away. This is however, very unlikely given the strength of teams like Leopard-Trek, Omega Pharma-Lotto, Team Sky and Rabobank.

Who is going to take the win? RIDE offers some podium opinions. From the top step through to third place.

Rob Arnold (Publishing Editor) – Fabian Cancellara (SUI) LEO, Gerraint Thomas (GBR) SKY, Matt Goss (AUS) THR.

If you have never seen footage of the race then here is a little clip of what the race is all about. Think Paris-Roubaix with hills…
