Matt Lloyd – chat before the crash…


Before his third start in the Tour de France, Matt Lloyd had stated that the eighth stage was one he had earmarked. At 158km long with seven climbs it was destined to be a tough day of racing between Belfort and Porrentruy in Switzerland. Many later declared it to be the hardest stage of the race. Rob Arnold bumped into the Australian who won the King of the Mountains crown at the Giro d’Italia in 2010 but has been plagued with bad luck since. NOTE: This is before the stage began. He would crash in the neutral zone. Again. His accident in Belfort caused the stage to be slightly delayed as Christian Prudhomme waited for the fallen rider to rejoin the peloton before waving the white flag to officially begin the race on 8 July. By then, Lloyd had fractured his collarbone. He would finish the stage but abandon the race later…
