Jai Hindley is a quiet achiever in the pro peloton. At the start of his third season with Team Sunweb, he claimed the title of Australia’s oldest stage race thanks to his climbing prowess. With stage wins at Falls Creek and Mt Buller, 23-year-old Jai Hindley enjoyed a taste of leadership – of both Team Sunweb, as well as the Jayco-Herald Sun Tour of 2020. The West Australian isn’t new to the peloton but the Victorian race provided him with a chance to showcase his true talent: climbing mountains.

Hindley claimed the title with a lead of 17 seconds over another young Aussie climber, Seb Berwick of St George Continental CC, with 2017 ‘Sun Tour’ champion, Damien Howson, rounding out the podium.

“Coming into a race as the designated leader, added pressure,” Hindley said after the final stage, a circuit race in the centre of Melbourne. ” But it’s also a really nice opportunity for a young guy like me…

“It’s been like a pretty big Aussie summer of racing with a few ups and downs but I’m so happy to finish it off this way and get the ball rolling before I head back over to Europe.”
