Paris-Roubaix has come and gone for another year but the legend of Greg Van Avermaet’s win will be discussed for years to come. That’s what makes the Classics special.

We look back at the race with a collection of images by Dutch photographer, Leon van Bon – a former rider who is now chasing the peloton around the world with his camera(s).

We asked Leon van Bon to choose some of his favourite images from this year’s Paris-Roubaix and “perhaps even offer a comment about each one and why it’s special”. He looked over his files, made his selection and sent them off for our perusal. By then it was late at night. He said he’d offer his comments when he woke.

Instead, we have married the photos up with some comments offered by Mathew Hayman the day after the 2017 edition of Paris-Roubaix and made a little YouTube clip, a montage for your viewing pleasure.

The aim is to encourage people to consider the photos rather than just flick from one to the next like a teenager looking at Instagram…

And so, as well as including van Bon’s selection of 16 photos from this epic race (below), you can also listen to some of what Hayman has to say about a race in which he was the defending champion.
