“Here are the pictures from yesterday’s Schledeprijs,” says our intrepid photographer from Singapore, Wei Yuet Wong. He’s in Europe collecting images from the Classics and sending galleries of his experiences for RIDE to publish. “It’s the oldest cycling race in Flanders. It’s also called some other names: ‘Grand Prix de l’Escaut’, ‘Antwerp Diamond Classic’, or the ‘Sprinter’s World Championships’. Going straight into de Ronde was a bit of a culture shock, so the Schledeprijs was a nice step – it’s a far more friendly atmosphere.

“As always I was wondering what approach I should take for the race. I decided to mingle among the team buses and I found out that it was more tricky than I thought. It was a constant jostling with the crowd to get into space. Some teams are also more friendly than others. I learned that I could not do everything at once, so I decided to hang around the Giant-Shimano Team bus.”

And thus we have portraits of the winner, Marcel Kittel, from before and after the race…
