We continue our overview of teams that have registered for the 2018 National Road Series. Here we receive a response to our survey from GPM-Stulz, the team managed by Trent Wilson.

One of the more colourful characters in the Australian domestic racing scene is Trent Wilson. After growing up in a cycling family, spending a few years racing in Europe, and generally enjoying the life that the bike has to offer, the boy from western Sydney has become a man while never leaving the sport behind.

He has been managing the team known as GPM-Stulz for years and, like many on the Australian road cycling scene, commits enormous time and resources into the sport.

Wilson and his line-up are regulars at races all around the nation and, along with many other NRS teams, they will be lining up next month for the opening round of the national series, the Grafton to Inverell.

In March RIDE Media sent a survey to all teams that had registered interest in the 2018 NRS series and we have been publishing their responses as they come in. You can find some already on ridemedia.com.au and, as other teams submit their answers, we’ll continue to publish this series.

We will continue to work with Kipp Kaufmann, manager of the NRS at Cycling Australia, and others associated with the series in an attempt to get a better understanding of the series and the people involved. If you have anything to add, please don’t hesitate to write and/or put a comment on our Facebook page.

It was relatively slim pickings for images of GPM-Stulz but the team does get some good exposure during the racing action.

10. Miscellaneous

“In 2009 Trent Wilson (‘Willo’) returned to Australia after a very successful professional career in Europe and America.

“On his return Willo saw the need for an elite men’s cycling team based in Sydney. Willo took over the management of the North Sydney based MacDougall and Blake team and thus the start of a very successful NRS team.

“The teams has had a few different name changes during its tenor until 2012 when Willo joined forces with Simon Hammond and the Parramatta cycling team becoming GPM-Stulz.

“GPM has had some very stable sponsors throughout its time including BBB, Lazer, Reynolds Wheels, Stulz, Fredon and GPS projects just to name a few.

“GPM has always been focused on developing your riders from NSW and particularly in the Sydney basin area.”
