The opening day of competition at the 2014 road cycling world championships in Ponferrada, Spain was all about teamwork. The TTTs – team time trials – for women and men (36.1km and 57.1km, respectively) were contested. Peter Velits is the only male competitor to claim a hat-trick of wins in this event that first made its appearance at the worlds in 2012. He was part of the winning Omega Pharma-Quickstep teams in Valkenburg (2012) and Florence (2013) and this year was on the top step of the podium again alongside his BMC Racing team-mates from 2014.

In the women’s event, it was business as usual for the Specialized-lululemon team: victory for the third year in a row.

During the course of the worlds, RIDE will be publishing galleries with the work of our favourite Singaporean contributor, Wei Yuet Wong who is back in Europe for another stint of work as he follows the season with his camera and his unique perspective of the cycling world.
