Heffron Park: final Tuesday of the ‘Summer Series’

We talk to a few people associated with the Sydney cycling scene and take a glimpse at one of the local criteriums to catch the vibe and find out a little more about racing at Heffron Park.

On a day of immense sadness in the Sydney cycling community, it seemed appropriate to visit Heffron Park for the final of the famous Tuesday evening ‘Summer Series’, a criterium that allows riders to showcase their talent mid-week and give a little exposure for sponsors who are committed to the local scene.

More than anything though, it’s a reminder of what bike racing is all about. It’s engaging, fun, fast, and something some are lucky enough to be able to do with mates.

“Racing’s a lot better than training. Oh, 100% – easily.”

RIDE Media visited Heffron Park to witness the final race of the series. We took along a camera and did a few interviews.

  • He could be intense on the bike and charismatic, charming, insightful, respectful and fun in interviews. @mathew.hayman has many qualities. He announced his intention to retire from racing today and we wish him all the best for what comes next. #bravo #thanks #champion
