On Tuesday morning 27 March, a tragic set of circumstances resulted in a life lost on Sydney’s roads. Following a two-car collision near the Paddington gates of Centennial Park, a tow truck driver was attending the scene and preparing to load one of the vehicles onto his truck.

It is understood that he opened his door which struck a cyclist and caused him to crash. Sadly he was then hit by a truck travelling behind him. The rider died a short time later.

Police are investigating the matter and have added nothing beyond the initial release, which explained that the cyclist had died as a result of injuries sustained. RIDE Media has contacted the NSW police media department, but they had no further comment.

Earlier today, the Geelong Advertiser confirmed that the victim of the accident is Andrew McArthur.

Known in the Sydney cycling community as ‘Andy’, he was a regular on bunch rides. He worked as associate director of UBS in Sydney. Details of his funeral are yet to be released.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his family and friends at this difficult time.
