It doesn’t take any prompting to get Robbie McEwen to talk about sprinting, or sprinters. Mention a name and the commentator takes care of the rest. In the final episode of the interview series with the three-time green jersey winner at the Tour de France, I asked for an overview of the qualities of the top eight of the TDF points classification in 2020… and add a few other names to the mix.

It was an easy and enjoyable interview to do and, in his typically professional style, McEwen offers a great summary of what makes the sprinters of the pro peloton in 2021 special.

We go down the list of the top eight in last year’s TDF green jersey competition, starting with the winner of six races already in 2021, Sam Bennett.

The others on the list from last year’s point classification rankings are: Peter Sagan, Matteo Trentin, Bryan Coquard, Wout van Aert, Caleb Ewan, Julian Alaphilippe… and even Tadej Pogacar (8th in the green jersey comp in 2020).

Also thrown into the mix for Robbie to comment on are the most prolific sprinter of recent times, Mark Cavendish, and soon-to-be TDF debutant, Mathieu van der Poel.

If you’re interested in cycling and like watching a sprint, then take a moment to listen to what Robbie McEwen has to say about the guys who are likely to be in the mix for the win in bunch finishes in the coming months. Watch the video and get some insights from one of the best Aussie cyclists of all time.
