Stage one of the Jayco-Herald Sun Tour: 21 riders over 21 minutes ahead of the others. The split happened on the first climb of the stage and the peloton would never see the leaders again. Up front were three from Orica-GreenEdge – Cameron Meyer, Simon Clarke and Damien Howson – as well as four from the Avanti Racing Team. Joseph Cooper and Patrick Bevin the two Kiwis from the NZ-registered team would take on the might of the only WorldTour team in the race… but finish second and third, respectively.

Cameron Meyer knows how to finish off the job. He drove the pace early in the day and sped across the line in first place, taking the leader’s jersey, and the points classification jersey all from a day’s work in the 146km race from Mt Macedon to Bendigo.
