For nine years there’s been one constant about the Australian road cycling national championships: the presence of enthusiastic photographer, Jean-Pierre Ronco. He was there again in 2022, focussing his camera on the action and capturing images that help tell the stories of races in Ballarat and Buninyong.

Scroll down the page, take in the images, and remind yourself about some of the highlights of the final event of the #RoadNats program of events in 2022. The Australian national championships include 20 events for a wide range of categories: para-cycling, juniors, under-23s, and elite. There’s also a trilogy of disciplines: time trials, criteriums and road races.

Capturing the action every day of the nationals is Jean-Pierre Ronco, a Frenchman who lives in Victoria and loves photographing cycling. He diligently uploads a collection of shots every day and you can find his work on his home page, Image Writer Photography.

If you like his work, please be sure to let him know. J-P is a hard-working individual who doesn’t earn a great deal of income from the work he does in cycling… but he turns up each year quite simply because he’s passionate about bike racing – and photography.

Enjoy looking at his work, as we’ve done for many years, with this gallery of the day Luke Plapp became the elite men’s road race champion.
