There was to be a new course for L’Etape Australia in 2020, with the mass participation ride moving to Kiama, NSW. The route remains the same, but the dates have been moved from November to March next year.

“The current escalation of the COVID-19 situation in Australia and ongoing restrictions on public gatherings to limit the spread of the virus has led organisers to postpone the event,” states the release on L’Etape Australia’s website. “The restrictions are there to protect riders, supporters and the local community, which is of paramount importance to all of us.”

And so, anyone who was making plans to be in Kiama in a few months – ready to ride the challenging loop in the NSW southern highlands – should now look at rescheduling their travel plans.

Instead of being held on the weekend of 27-28 November 2020, L’Etape Australia will next be held on 19-20 March 2021.

In a few short years, this has become one of the bigger rides in Australia. Until now it has been held in the NSW Snowy Mountains and the move to the coast offers a chance for Destination NSW, a key sponsor of the event, to showcase the region nearby where the 2022 road cycling world championships will be contested.
