Pre-race comments: Deakin University Elite Women’s Race

We speak to a number of the riders in the opening race of the weekend of cycling in Geelong. Listen to our interviews on RIDE Media’s SoundCloud station…

The flag has dropped and the women are racing in the fourth edition of the Deakin University Elite Women’s Race. There are 87 starters and, considering the conditions – which are going from warm to hot – we can expect quite a few less finishers in a few hours’ time.

RIDE Media is in Geelong and, before the start of the women’s race on Saturday morning, Rob Arnold roamed around the pits and had a few quick chats with some of the riders who are in town for what is surely Australia’s biggest one-day bike race.

The atmosphere is building as cyclists who completed the mass participation ride this morning are filtering back in to Geelong. And we can expect a great carnival vibe for this weekend of racing in Victoria.

Click the links below to listen to some of the pre-race comments from the likes of Amanda Spratt, Chloe Hosking, Shannon Malseed and Katrin Garfoot.
