A project to recreate a bike made famous in Hollywood required considerable time and effort. Here is a summary of the components for the ‘Breaking Away’ Masi.

One of the regular features in RIDE Cycling Review magazine was the ‘Retro Reviews’. (Click here for the full list.) Sometimes they were bikes made famous in races, other times they were pet projects from enthusiasts and/or collectors.

James Sage provided one of the most detailed explanations of a build in his story about the Masi used in Breaking Away.

He went to considerable effort to source the period-correct parts, paint colour and decals. It wasn’t easy but the result is a stunning piece of equipment.

Below is an overview of all the components used for this special project, star of the Retro Review of #RIDE74.
