Racing has begun in the UCI Road World Championships of 2022 in Wollongong, NSW, Australia! It is happening.

  • Two races have taken place and three rainbow jerseys have been awarded:
  • Ellen van Dijk, first in the elite women’s time trial
  • Vittoria Guazzini the first to be awarded the under-23 women’s TT world championship jersey (4th in the women’s race)
  • Tobias Foss in the elite men’s TT.

Remco Evenepoel begins his first race in Australia only a week after winning the Vuelta a España. He finished third in the time trial, 9.16 seconds behind Tobias Foss of Norway.

Stories have emerged on the opening day of racing at #Wollongong2022. The elite time trials have been run and won. One favourite – the defending champion Ellen van Dijk confirmed her dominance of an event she has now won three times. While there was a reward for fourth place in the opening race of the championships, the honour of winning the first under-23 women’s rainbow jersey.

Vittoria Guazzini of Italy got podium time and a media conference along with Shirin van Anrooij from the Netherlands and Ricarda Brauenfeind of Germany were the first three in an innovation for 2022, an under-23 women’s category (albeit combined with the women’s races, but time trial and road race).

Grace Brown was the 10th rider to start the TT. She sat on the hot seat until the arrival of the last rider to start, Ellen van Dijk… who beat the Australian by just 12.73 seconds.
