“To start we need a new website with team/rider profiles, race reports, news etc. It’s crazy we don’t have a stand-alone website. It’s the national competition!” So says Cameron McKimm when asked what could be done to improve the NRS.

Apparently this platform is coming, in the meantime RIDE Media is assisting by profiling some of the teams that are registered to race the nine-race series in 2018. This is the sixth instalment of the team profiles and it is includes are relatively succinct commentary from McKimm.

  1. What is your team’s main motivation for being part of the NRS?

“To provide up and coming young Australian cyclists the opportunity to compete at the highest national level as well as support the series to help it grow to enable to help future generations of Australian cyclists.”

  1. What could be done to improve the NRS?

“We must invest in promotion. Both infrastructure and resource to bring the NRS to the people.

“To start we need a new website with team / rider profiles, race reports, news etc. It’s crazy we don’t have a stand-alone website. It’s the national competition!

“Secondly, we need to appoint a media figure head. Someone with a personality who is passionate about the series that reports on it using the available platforms – website, social media, email newsletters etc. Nothing revolutionary, just like all the other national competitions do.

“Andrew Christie-Johnstone and I recommended at our last CA meeting we cancel one race and have the teams put the money they had budgeted (most cases $10,000) towards media. That’s how badly we need it.

“The more media coverage CA / NRS provides the better exposure for our sponsors, the easier it is for us to attract and retain them. The absolute lifeblood of all of this.

“We have to get to basics in place for a start. There are a lot of good stories to be told and a large interested audience waiting.”

  1. How many years have you and your team been involved in:

a) Cycling? “The team started in 2014 as a group of mates racing club level.”

b) The NRS? “We competed in one event in 2016. All but two in 2017 (first year as a registered team). Will compete in all in 2018.”

  1. Miscellaneous:

“We are also doing a four-week stint in Belgium this year in June / July. We also have an under 19 team – InForm TM Insight who are also doing part of the NRS this season.”
