BMC bikes in the pro peloton – 2004-2026 (Cycling Retrospective)

Another pro bike gallery, this time we look at the BMC brand – a Swiss company that has supplied a range of pro teams over the past 30 years…

We continue a team bike retrospective with a look at the progression of BMC, a brand associated with the pro cycling peloton over a considerable span of time – with both bike supply, and naming-rights sponsorship.

In recent years the BMC bike brand has appeared again in some of cycling’s biggest road races courtesy of a sponsorship of Tudor Pro Cycling. The team featured in the news at the end of August with one of the star recruits, Julian Alaphilippe, announcing his retirement, effectively immediately. His final race in the pro peloton was the Tour de France, a race that helped propel the French superstar into the public eye since his debut in 2014.

During his time with the Tudor team Alaphilippe might not have enjoyed the kind of form he had in his prime but the two-time world champion is a fine ambassador for cycling and the personification of a sponsor’s dream athlete: charismatic, open, honest, free-spirited, fun, and a dynamic rider who with his cheeky nature complimented by a relaxed yet professional approach to his sport.

The 34-year-old raced his final two seasons with the Swiss-registered ProTeam and his presence in the TDF selection assured Tudor Pro Cycling of exposure, no matter the results.

The Quebec GP, part of the UCI’s top-tier WorldTour, in 2025 was the only race Alaphilippe won while riding a BMC bike but he gave the brand a large portfolio of images from the seasons spent racing with Tudor Pro Cycling.

This August BMC also featured strongly in the recent MTB world championships, with young Australian Connor Wright lifting his bike above his head after winning gold in the junior cross country, 1:16 ahead of silver medallist Michael Hettegger from Austria.

And on the first weekend of September the Tudor team wrestled its way on to the stage winners’ list thanks to a super-cool win achieved by Marco Brenner in a calm, collected, and convincing climbing display during the tough finale to Sierra de la Pandera on the Saturday.

Using a portfolio of images collected since Ride Media began publishing the Official Tour de France Guide (Australian edition) in 2003, we take a look back at the BMC bikes that have featured in that race by a range of teams since Phonak’s debut as a wildcard team – one with very strong connections to the founder of BMC, Andy Rihs, including the hearing aid company that had title sponsorship in 2004.
