To look back on the first mountain stage of the 2022 TDF, Zac Williams offers a study of climbing styles from the leading riders in the stage that included the steep gravel road to Super Planches des Belles Filles…

Here is part 7 of the #ZacWilliamsGalleries from Le Tour of 2022.

It was a classic breakaway-vs-GC men that ensured tension remained high to the very end of stage seven when the gravel road to Super Planches des Belles Filles featured for a second time on the itinerary of the TDF.

Lennard Kämna very nearly held off the chase by the Tour leader and next-best on GC, but in the dying metres of the steep finale of the stage, Pogacar and Vingegaard swallowed up the German who had been on the attack for most of the day.

The site that will soon host the finish of the inaugural Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift has quickly become an iconic destination of the world’s biggest race. Super Planches des Belles Filles is brutal for the riders and beautiful for spectators and photographers.

Zac Williams captures the emotions of the day when Tadej Pogacar increased his lead on GC with a second successive stage win at the 109th Tour de France.

Nothing seems to hinder the Slovenian superstar who beat his key rival in last year’s Tour after a dramatic final few hundred metres. Vingegaard dared challenge Pogacar and, for a while at least, it seemed like the Dane would reach the finish before the defending TDF champion.

But, as we have come to learn since Pogacar began his Tour career, never underestimate his appetite for victory!
